In 2008 the National Arts Centre of High Specialization for Musical and Choreutic Theatre (Polo Nazionale Artistico) was founded in Verona at the initiative of MIUR-AFAM (Ministry of Education, University and Research, Higher Education for Music and the Arts).
The Polo Nazionale Artistico is unique in its kind, having the legal right to manage post-graduate Masters in opera theatre and ballet (opera stage direction, set design, composition, choreography, orchestra conduction and so forth).
In addition to the Master’s Degree, the Polo Nazionale Artistico organizes and offers courses of high specialization in theatre crafts and careers (costume designer, wig maker, lighting and audio technician, make up artist and hairdresser, stage technician) available also to students who don’t have a University degree.
The Polo also promotes an intense research and experimentation activity, organizes lectures and events to stimulate cultural debate, fosters opportunities for discussion and enhancement of artists and art projects.
As a co-founder, the Polo partners with ENOA (European Network Opera Academies), a European network of theaters and academies that orchestrates activities of training, production and circulation of artistic and musical heritage.
The innovative structure of the Polo Nazionale Artistico involves prestigious institutions in a consortium known as Verona Accademia per l’Opera Italiana. It entails the Fondazione Arena di Verona, I.S.I.A. in Florence, Università degli Studi in Verona, Accademia Nazionale di Danza in Rome, Academy of Fine Arts and the Conservatory of Music in Verona.
